Local SEO for businesses that serve a drive, not a nation

Search "roof repair" in Summerville or "family dentist" in Irmo and Google often shows a map with three businesses above the ordinary results. Each comes from a Google Business Profile, and Google's help pages currently name three factors: how relevant a profile is, how far the business is from the searcher, and how well known it is across the web.

You can't move your shop closer to every customer. You can make the profile match what people search, make every listing agree, and build the reviews and links that show you're established.

  • Business Profile, field by field

Categories, services in your customers' words, up to 20 service areas, hours, special hours and your own photos.

  • Listings that agree

Old addresses and phone numbers found and fixed on Apple, Bing, Yelp, Facebook and your trade's directories.

  • A review habit

A short link and QR code, request wording timed to the end of each job, and reply wording for the good and the unfair.

  • Pages for your towns

One strong page per service and a page for each town you really serve, so farther towns have something to rank.

  • Links you can check

Guest posts, Web 2.0 pages and amplification in your plan's volumes, each listed with its live URL.

  • A monthly report

Profile changes, listings fixed, where your searches rank now and every link placed, in writing.

What the link types mean
  • Guest posts (DA 20+): outreach secures an article on an independently owned website, with a link back to yours.
  • Web 2.0 pages (DA 50+): we publish these pages on established publishing platforms and include a link to your website.
  • Amplification links: these links support the guest posts and Web 2.0 pages. They point to those assets to help strengthen them and encourage indexing; they do not link directly to your website.

How local SEO work unfolds, and how long it takes

Timelines are ranges. Your pace depends on your competition and your starting point.

Talk it through on a call
  1. 1. The first look, free

A person on our team compares your profile, listings and site with whoever holds the map for your main searches, then emails you the gaps, most important first.

  2. 2. The first round, 8 to 18 days

Profile fixes, listing corrections and new listings, your review-request kit, and the links in your plan, inside its turnaround.

  3. 3. Months 1 to 3

Searches with few competitors and smaller towns tend to move first. Directory corrections spread as each site updates its records.

  4. 4. Month 4 on

City terms in Charleston, Greenville or Columbia take longer, often six months or more. Each report says what moved and what didn't.

The detail behind each part of local SEO

Google Business Profile optimization, field by field

Categories come first, because they tell Google which searches you belong in. Services come next, each described the way a customer would put it: a Greenville electrician who also installs generators lists that as its own service. Photos should show your own jobs and vehicles, not stock images.

Two rules catch owners out. Adding keywords to the business name ("Smith Roofing Charleston Roof Repair" when the sign says Smith Roofing) breaks Google's guidelines and can get a profile suspended. And if you work at customers' homes rather than receiving them, you can hide your address and show a service area instead.

Citation building and cleanup, so every listing tells the same story

A citation is any listing of your business name, address and phone number on another site: Apple Maps, Bing, Yelp, Facebook, your trade's directories, the local chamber. When those listings disagree, customers get sent to the wrong place and search engines get mixed signals.

The mess usually comes from ordinary changes: a move from West Ashley to Summerville, a new phone number, a new name after a partner left. We search every version of your name, past addresses and old numbers; fix the big directories first; add the ones you're missing; merge duplicates; and log every listing in your monthly report. Directories update on their own schedules, so some fixes show within days and others take weeks.

Review requests that stay inside Google's rules

The goal is a habit: every customer asked, at the same moment in every job, in a way that takes them about thirty seconds. Asking only the customers you expect to be happy (review gating) breaks Google's review policies, and so does offering a discount or gift for a review. Fake reviews are prohibited outright.

Some professions have advertising rules of their own. The South Carolina Supreme Court regulates lawyers, so a law office should confirm the current rules before using client reviews in its marketing. Bigger review problems are quoted separately as part of our digital marketing work.

Hurricane-season special hours, from Little River to Hilton Head

Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, according to the National Hurricane Center. Before the season, confirm hours and photos. During a storm, set special hours or mark the profile temporarily closed and post a reopening note. The day you reopen, clear it on Google, Apple and Bing.

Every plan covers these changes during our hours, Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 18:00 Eastern, and we show you how to set special hours from your own phone for nights and weekends.

Service areas, town pages and more than one location

A Business Profile can list up to 20 service areas. Pick the towns you drive to and want more work from. Say you run a two-truck HVAC company out of Lexington (a made-up example): start with Lexington, Irmo, Chapin, Cayce, West Columbia and Columbia. The list doesn't put you in the map for every town on it, because distance still counts; farther towns need a real page on your site, like our pages on SEO in Columbia, SC and Myrtle Beach SEO.

Each real, staffed location gets its own profile, page and reviews. Our plans count websites, not locations: Tri-County covers two sites and Whole State four, and several locations on one site usually means more target keywords.

What you can count on

  • Your accounts stay yours

The profile, listings, reviews, domain and site remain in your name. We work on them with manager access.

  • Nothing hidden

The report lists every change and every link with its address, so you or anyone you trust can check the work.

  • Stop any month

No contract. One email before your next billing date and the next month doesn't start.

Local SEO questions South Carolina owners ask

Something else on your mind? Ask us on a call.

How much does local SEO cost in South Carolina?

With us, $65 to $575 a month, or $75 to $620 for one month only, with no subscription. Business Profile, citation and review work come with all five plans, so the plan depends on how many searches and towns you want to cover and how crowded your map is. A two-service shop in the Pee Dee rarely needs what a Mount Pleasant firm facing a dozen established competitors does.

Can a $235 plan compete in a crowded map?

Sometimes not, and the free check will tell you so. The plans are fixed and the work is the same every month, which keeps the price down. County Seat suits a metro service area with real competitors in the map; in the busiest Charleston or Greenville searches most businesses need Tri-County, and a few need Whole State or a custom quote. One quiet town often does fine on Market Town.

How long does it take to get into the map pack?

There is no fixed date. Profile and listing fixes are often picked up within weeks, but reaching the top three depends on how close your customers are, how your reviews compare and how hard your competitors work their own profiles. In a small town that can take a couple of months; for a Charleston or Greenville search, plan on six months or more.

Do you guarantee a spot in the map?

No. Google decides who shows in the map, and distance from the searcher is part of it, so no one outside Google can promise a position. What we promise is the work itself, listed line by line in your monthly report and delivered inside your plan's turnaround.

Will you also work with a competitor in my town?

We might. We don't sell exclusive territories. If we work with two businesses in the same town and trade, each has its own plan, keyword list and reports, and nothing from one account is shown to or used for the other.

Is there a contract, and what happens to my profile if I cancel?

No contract. Plans run month to month and you can stop any month by email. Your Business Profile, listings and reviews stay in your name, because they always were; we simply stop working on them, and the last report you received lists every link placed up to then.

Who does the work?

Our team, which has done SEO since 2009, working by email and scheduled calls during Eastern business hours. Every task shows in your report, and a person on the team reads every message sent to support@southcarolinaseo.company.

Are the links safe for my site?

You can check each one yourself. Guest posts are placed through outreach on other websites, Web 2.0 pages sit on large publishing platforms, and amplification links point at those pages rather than at your site. Every link is in your monthly report with its live URL, target page and anchor text.

Does local SEO help with AI answers too?

The same groundwork feeds them. Google's AI Overviews and assistants like ChatGPT lean on complete Business Profiles, listings that agree, reviews and clear service pages. There is no separate AI plan, and no one can promise you will be quoted.
